Garage Flake Floors
Garage Floor Coatings Built For Michigan Winters
A diamond-ground, three-layer flake system that shrugs off road salt, hot tires, and dropped tools. Installed across Grand Rapids and West Michigan by a 5.0-rated local crew.
The Last Floor Your Garage Will Ever Need
Bare concrete never stays bare in Michigan. Snowmelt carries road salt in on your tires every winter, the slab pits and dusts, and oil soaks in where it can never be cleaned out. An epoxy garage floor fixes the look for a season. A properly built flake system fixes it for good.
Ours is a three-layer hybrid: a moisture-tolerant epoxy base coat bonded into diamond-ground concrete, a full flake broadcast in the blend you choose, and a UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat that will not yellow or peel. Store-bought kits are one thin coat of paint sitting on top of the slab. This is a rebuilt wear surface, mechanically locked into the concrete itself.
We are a local, family-owned crew based in Zeeland, and we install flake floors across Grand Rapids, Holland, Hudsonville, and 25+ West Michigan cities. Every quote is free, fixed, and itemized.

Why West Michigan Garages Get Flake Floors
Every benefit below comes from the build, not the brochure.
Salt & Snowmelt Proof
The sealed surface keeps chlorides out of the slab. Winter slush wipes up with a squeegee instead of eating your concrete.
No Hot-Tire Peel
Hot-tire pickup is what kills DIY epoxy. Diamond grinding plus a polyaspartic topcoat means tires never pull our coating loose.
Never Yellows
Plain epoxy ambers in sunlight. Our UV-stable topcoat holds its color even in front of a south-facing garage door.
Traction Additive Included
Traction additive goes into every applicable topcoat at no charge to improve grip when the sealed surface is wet.
Your Blend, Previewed
Pick from dozens of flake blends on our [color charts](/color-charts/), then see it on a photo of your own garage with the free [AI preview](/ai-garage-preview/).
Cured Right, Not Rushed
We give every coat its full cure time between visits. That patience is why our floors last and bargain coatings peel.

What A Garage Flake Floor Costs In Grand Rapids
Professionally installed flake systems in West Michigan typically land around $5 to $9 per square foot, so a standard two-car garage is usually a low four-figure project. The honest answer is that the slab decides the price: a sound floor needs less repair than one with spalling, pitting, or open cracks.
Three things drive the number: square footage, the condition of the concrete, and how much repair work the prep stage needs. What does not change the price after we quote it is anything. Every High Caliber quote is fixed and itemized, so the number you approve is the number you pay.
- Square footage: bigger floors cost more in total but usually less per square foot
- Concrete condition: cracks, pits, and moisture issues add prep time, and we fix them properly
- Extras: containment walls, stem walls, and stairs can be coated to match

Flake Coating vs. DIY Epoxy Garage Floor Kits
Every spring we grind failed kit floors out of West Michigan garages. The kit itself is not the problem: the missing prep is. Paint-on epoxy over smooth, unground concrete has nothing to grip, so the first hot summer tire pulls it up in sheets.
We start where the kits skip. Diamond grinders profile the slab to bare, porous concrete, cracks and pits get filled, and only then does the base coat go down. The full flake broadcast adds thickness and hides future scuffs, and the polyaspartic topcoat takes the abuse the epoxy underneath never has to see. If your slab needs more than cosmetics, our concrete grinding service handles everything from paint removal to leveling high spots first.

Beyond The Garage: Basements, Pole Barns, And Shops
The same three-layer system works anywhere concrete takes a beating. We coat basements and laundry rooms (paired with a moisture barrier epoxy where the slab reads damp), pole barns and workshops that see equipment traffic, and commercial back-of-house floors that need to survive pallet jacks.
If you want a different look at the same durability, ask about our granite hybrid flake floors: a tighter, stone-textured blend that reads more like showroom terrazzo than a classic garage floor.
How We Install It
Six controlled steps, zero shortcuts. Depending on the slab and selected system, installation may be completed in one day or across multiple visits, with every coat receiving its required cure time.
1Grind & Prepare
We diamond-grind the concrete to a clean, porous profile so the coating bonds permanently.
2Repair & Clean
Cracks, pits, and spalls are filled and leveled, then industrial vacuums pull off every trace of dust.
3Hybrid Base Coat
A pigmented polyurea/epoxy blend is rolled and back-rolled into the prepped slab for full coverage.
4Broadcast the Flake
Your chosen flake blend is hand-broadcast to full refusal while the base is wet.
5Polyaspartic Topcoat
A UV-stable topcoat locks the system in — scratch resistant, chemical resistant, easy to clean.
6Final Walkthrough
We inspect every square foot with you and hand over a floor that's ready to live on for years.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a garage floor coating cost in Grand Rapids?
Most professionally installed flake systems in West Michigan run about $5 to $9 per square foot depending on slab condition and size, so a typical two-car garage is a low four-figure project. Call (616) 777-7348 and you will have a free, fixed, itemized quote for your actual floor.
How long does a flake garage floor last?
Installed over diamond-ground concrete with a polyaspartic topcoat, expect 15 to 20+ years of daily use. The mechanical bond is the difference: coatings fail from bad prep, not old age.
What is the difference between epoxy and a flake coating?
Epoxy is one ingredient, not the whole recipe. In our system epoxy is only the base layer that bonds to the slab. The flake broadcast adds thickness and texture, and the UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat provides the wear surface. Epoxy-only floors yellow in sunlight and peel under hot tires.
Can you coat a cracked or pitted garage floor?
Yes. Crack repair and pit filling are built into our prep stage, and grinding takes down high spots. Badly damaged slabs may need self-leveling work first, which we also do in house.
Is a flake floor slippery when wet?
Yes. Like any sealed hard surface, a flake floor can be slippery when wet or holding snowmelt. We mix traction additive into every applicable topcoat at no extra charge to improve grip, but it does not make the floor slip-proof. Standing water should be removed promptly and treated with normal caution.
How soon can I park on the new floor?
Foot traffic is typically fine the next day, and vehicles after a few days once the topcoat reaches full hardness. We give you exact timing at the final walkthrough, and we never compress cure times to finish faster.

Google ReviewsWould highly recommend. No pressure sales, quality product, great communication and quality installation. I met Jeff at the home show. I was drawn into his booth by his very enthusiast kids. I got the immediate impression this was a family oriented business and that was reinforced by the conversation with both Jeff and his young son. These values drew me to this business. I signed up for a quote. Shortly after the show Jeff came to my home to present options and provide a quote. No pressure to buy, Jeff understood I needed to get thru tax season before I could be sure about my budget. Over the course of next few months Jeff was responsive to any questions I had and we got the job scheduled. Jeff provided a trailer in the quote to store contents of garage while job was being done, which was very helpful. When talking with others about the quote I learned my price was equal to or less than what neighbors had paid up to six years ago, so I felt this was good pricing. I had thought there would be a ton of dust and a big mess when grinding surface, but the machines had a vacuum attached, clean and efficient work. I was impressed that they coated steps and side walls as well as floor. No mess on drywall or driveway. Crew doing installation were great guys. They took time to fill me in on the process of installation, what to expect, how long for surface to cure and when I could empty trailer. Post install Jeff stopped out to grab trailer, filled me in on what to use and how to clean the floor. VERY happy with the whole process from sales to install to follow up. LOVE my new garage.
I can not express how awesome my garage floor looks. Your crew did a phenomenal job, we'll probably be the envy of the neighborhood now. Very polite, cleaned up the area, fast amazing job! My only complaint was the floor was going to look great so my wife said we had to clean out and paint all the walls and shelving, but it was worth it. Thank you again.
Wow! Jeff and Mike were amazing to partner with for my garage floor renovation! They did an amazing job but more importantly, they communicated directly with me thru texts, reminders, and in person! Jeff and his team left my garage and exterior area cleaner than when they arrived and gave clear instructions on follow up care needed for my new floor! I would highly recommend High Caliber Concrete Coatings anytime!
The floor looks awesome. What an improvement !!! The installers where also top notch. Communicated the plans and details clearly.
Jeff and his crew did an awesome job. Jeff was very prompt with his quote, his timeliness of service and his responses back to any questions I had. The closed trailer Jeff offers for use for garage contents during the work was such a great idea. It made my prep work and garage reload minimal. Jeff's workcrew was timely, hard working and very, very polite. Their clean up work was super! I did not have to do anything but reload my contents. I am beyond happy with the finished project and would recommend High Caliber for a successful experience!! I love that they are a local business and support their exceptional work ethic and results!
Jeff and his team did the most amazing job epoxy floor coating my 38 year old garage floor. Outstanding, professional, skilled, great communication. Highly recommended.
