Concrete Polishing

Polished Concrete Floors for West Michigan Work and Home

Turn the slab you already own into the finished floor. High Caliber refines concrete with progressive diamond tooling for a clean, durable surface that suits storefronts, warehouses, offices, and modern homes.

Concrete Polishing That Reveals the Slab

Polished concrete is not gray paint or a clear coating poured over the floor. The concrete itself is refined with progressively finer diamond abrasives, then densified and polished to the selected sheen. Its natural aggregate, joints, patches, and tonal movement remain visible.

That finish fits Grand Rapids retail spaces, Zeeland production floors, lakeshore showrooms, and modern homes. Forklift aisles need a different surface than a residential kitchen, so we select aggregate exposure and shine around traffic, lighting, and cleaning.

High Caliber is a local, family-owned and fully insured contractor at 11007 Chicago Drive in Zeeland. We serve more than 25 cities within a two-hour radius. For mixed-floor projects, our Grand Rapids concrete coating team can match each area with the right treatment.

Why Polished Concrete Works in Demanding Interiors

The value comes from improving the structural surface already underfoot, not covering it with another flooring product.

Built for Heavy Traffic

Densification and diamond refinement produce a hard-wearing surface for carts, foot traffic, stock movement, and daily commercial use.

A Finish Unique to the Slab

Aggregate size, placement, patches, and tonal shifts create a floor that cannot be duplicated from a printed sample.

Sheen You Can Specify

Choose a subdued matte appearance, a balanced satin reflection, or a higher polish that throws more light across the room.

No Added Floor Covering

The existing concrete becomes the wear surface, so there are no plank seams, grout lines, or sheet goods to lift at the edges.

Simple Routine Cleaning

Dust mopping and damp cleaning with a neutral product handle normal upkeep without wax films or repeated stripping cycles.

Commercial Strength, Residential Restraint

The same exposed mineral character that fits a warehouse can give a kitchen, basement, or open living area a calm modern base.

What Do Polished Concrete Floors Cost in Grand Rapids?

A practical West Michigan planning range is about $4 to $10 per square foot for an accessible slab in workable condition. This is not a bid. An open warehouse with limited repairs can stay near the lower end, while deep aggregate exposure, detailed edges, high-gloss refinement, or difficult access raises the number.

Paint, adhesive, oil contamination, cracks, spalls, and low areas add labor before polishing begins. Extensive removal or decorative repair can push a project beyond that range, which is why a site visit beats a price guessed from room dimensions.

High Caliber provides a free, fixed, itemized quote after inspecting the concrete. Preparation, repair, exposure, and polishing are defined before scheduling.

  • Slab condition: contamination, weak concrete, cracks, and spalling change the preparation plan
  • Exposure level: cutting deeper to reveal larger stone requires more grinding passes
  • Finish level: additional refinement for higher sheen adds tooling and labor
  • Site details: edges, columns, stairs, tight rooms, and occupied-space scheduling affect production

Can Your Existing Concrete Slab Be Polished?

Most sound interior slabs are candidates, but inspection sets the ceiling for the result. We check hardness, flatness, coatings, adhesive, oil, cracks, repairs, and moisture. A mirror finish is wrong for concrete that needs another answer.

Old trench lines, patches, anchor holes, and aggregate changes may remain visible after correct repairs. Some clients want that industrial record. Others prefer uniform color, where a coating may fit better. A test area can reveal how an uncertain slab responds.

If paint or a failed system must come off, our concrete grinding service handles mechanical removal. Weak, pitted, or uneven areas may need repair or leveling before polishing.

Polished Concrete vs Epoxy and Grind-and-Seal Floors

Polishing mechanically refines concrete and leaves its minerals visible. Epoxy and other resins create a film that provides uniform color, full coverage, and separation from the slab. For garages collecting salty snowmelt, oil, and hot-tire traffic, a garage floor coating may be more practical.

A grind and seal concrete floor is ground to the desired texture, then protected with a topical sealer instead of receiving the full polishing sequence. It can suit a slab that will not polish consistently, a specific sealed appearance, or a budget favoring fewer refinement steps.

Retailers may choose polish for variation and light reflection. Workshops can favor a sealed or coated system where spills control the decision. Homeowners usually decide whether to reveal the slab's imperfections or cover them with a more uniform finish.

Aggregate Exposure, Shine Levels, and Daily Maintenance

A light cream polish keeps more surface paste and shows subtle movement. A salt-and-pepper cut exposes small aggregate. Deeper grinding reveals larger stone, but the slab controls its placement, so perfectly uniform exposure cannot be promised.

Sheen is separate. Matte and satin levels mute reflections in homes or work areas. Higher refinement brightens retail and open commercial interiors. Sand, standing water, and oily residue still need prompt removal because contaminants affect wear and footing.

Capture tracked grit, damp mop with a neutral cleaner, and place mats where West Michigan snow and road salt enter. Acidic cleaners can dull the surface, while wax leaves a film over the finish.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does polished concrete cost in Grand Rapids?

Use roughly $4 to $10 per square foot as a West Michigan planning range for accessible concrete in workable condition. Deep exposure, coating removal, repairs, high sheen, edge work, and difficult access can raise the price. High Caliber provides a free, fixed, itemized quote after inspection.

Is polished concrete cheaper than epoxy flooring?

Sometimes. Polishing can be economical on a clean, open slab because the concrete becomes the finish. Heavy repairs or deep exposure add labor. Epoxy may offer better value when uniform coverage or isolation from spills matters more.

Can old concrete floors be polished?

Yes, if it is sound enough to refine. Adhesive, paint, oil, soft areas, cracks, and old repairs need evaluation first. Some marks may become part of the finished character rather than disappear.

What shine levels are available for polished concrete?

Options run from a muted sheen through satin and into a brighter reflective polish. Shine and aggregate exposure are separate selections. A floor can reveal aggregate while keeping its final reflection restrained.

How do you maintain polished concrete floors?

Remove grit, damp clean with a neutral product, and wipe spills promptly. Skip acidic cleaners and wax films because they alter the appearance. Entry mats help during Grand Rapids winters when shoes carry sand, moisture, and road salt.

How long does concrete polishing take?

Timing depends on size, access, repairs, removal work, exposure, and sheen. An open room moves faster than an occupied warehouse needing edge work and patching. The written quote includes a site-specific sequence and timeline.

Would highly recommend. No pressure sales, quality product, great communication and quality installation. I met Jeff at the home show. I was drawn into his booth by his very enthusiast kids. I got the immediate impression this was a family oriented business and that was reinforced by the conversation with both Jeff and his young son. These values drew me to this business. I signed up for a quote. Shortly after the show Jeff came to my home to present options and provide a quote. No pressure to buy, Jeff understood I needed to get thru tax season before I could be sure about my budget. Over the course of next few months Jeff was responsive to any questions I had and we got the job scheduled. Jeff provided a trailer in the quote to store contents of garage while job was being done, which was very helpful. When talking with others about the quote I learned my price was equal to or less than what neighbors had paid up to six years ago, so I felt this was good pricing. I had thought there would be a ton of dust and a big mess when grinding surface, but the machines had a vacuum attached, clean and efficient work. I was impressed that they coated steps and side walls as well as floor. No mess on drywall or driveway. Crew doing installation were great guys. They took time to fill me in on the process of installation, what to expect, how long for surface to cure and when I could empty trailer. Post install Jeff stopped out to grab trailer, filled me in on what to use and how to clean the floor. VERY happy with the whole process from sales to install to follow up. LOVE my new garage.

I can not express how awesome my garage floor looks. Your crew did a phenomenal job, we'll probably be the envy of the neighborhood now. Very polite, cleaned up the area, fast amazing job! My only complaint was the floor was going to look great so my wife said we had to clean out and paint all the walls and shelving, but it was worth it. Thank you again.

Wow! Jeff and Mike were amazing to partner with for my garage floor renovation! They did an amazing job but more importantly, they communicated directly with me thru texts, reminders, and in person! Jeff and his team left my garage and exterior area cleaner than when they arrived and gave clear instructions on follow up care needed for my new floor! I would highly recommend High Caliber Concrete Coatings anytime!

Jeff and his crew did an awesome job. Jeff was very prompt with his quote, his timeliness of service and his responses back to any questions I had. The closed trailer Jeff offers for use for garage contents during the work was such a great idea. It made my prep work and garage reload minimal. Jeff's workcrew was timely, hard working and very, very polite. Their clean up work was super! I did not have to do anything but reload my contents. I am beyond happy with the finished project and would recommend High Caliber for a successful experience!! I love that they are a local business and support their exceptional work ethic and results!
